Hanson & Hopewell Partner Spotlight: Meet Town Talk Polish
Every month at Hanson & Hopewell, we highlight one of the independent businesses we feature in our luxury bride-to-be gift boxes. This month, we’ve chosen Town Talk Polish, whose Exquisite Jewel Sparkle Pot and Tissues are the only products we would ever trust to care for and keep our cherished engagement and wedding rings sparkling! Here’s The Polished Gentleman to tell you a bit more…
Can you tell us a little about who you are and what you do?
I am Mr Town Talk, aka The Polished Gentleman. My company is Town Talk Polish – manufacturers of fine jewellery care, cleaning and polishing products. I am (currently) 122 years old and looking rather fine for my age! My factory is in Bolton, Lancashire and my team exports the world’s widest range of top quality cleaning products to over 40 countries across the globe.
What makes your business so special to you and your customers?
I believe in exceptional quality. So all my jewellery cleaning and polishing products work incredibly well, use the highest grade materials and are super easy to use. Of course all my products also feature yours truly on the packaging, with many proffering my top tips on how to care for treasured possessions such as gold, silver, pearls, diamonds, platinum, precious stones and gems. What’s more I insist that everything is made right here in the UK where I can keep a close eye on the process!
What was it that inspired you to start your business?
In 1895 an enterprising English gentleman, Mr Pexton – a friend of mine, developed an ingenious and innovative way of cleaning and polishing Victorian silverware. The formula used the pure moorland water of Lancashire and exceptional, locally milled cotton. Pexton’s Silver Polishing Cloths soon became the talk of the town and so was founded “The Town Talk Polish Company."
Can you describe your typical day for us?
In my factory it’s a busy day; nowadays I have a large team. My chemists are testing products and new formulations; my designers are working on bespoke products for independent jewellers on all four corners of the globe. My quality control team is spot-checking every product line to ensure absolutely everything that leaves my factory is in optimum condition.
If you had to choose, what has been your favourite day at work so far?
It’s incredibly rewarding to witness the pleasure that customers get when they discover Town Talk products: from seeing my fun illustrations adorning the packaging to their amazement at finding how simple and effective the products are to use. I receive thank you letters and cards weekly from happy customers who find Town Talk products bring a smile to their faces – what could possibly be more satisfying than that? In recent times, knowing my team had worked incredibly hard to achieve British Retail Consortium Global Standards – the best manufacturing benchmark – was a proud moment.
Has there been a hardest day at work so far?
Every day is very satisfying at Town Talk Polish. We have systems that prove we pour incredible amounts of time, research, development and top quality ingredients in to each product. This ensures Town Talk’s products are the best in the business. It’s frustrating when some products on the market suggest similar standards but don’t stack up to our rigorous testing.
As a child, what did you want to be when you grew up?
Ha! Aside from butler to Her Majesty, probably a racing car driver!
What or who is your daily inspiration?
Coco Chanel is an inspiration for glamour and style, plus she was a fan of pearls – perhaps the ultimate statement of elegance. Watching new jewellery designers come onto the scene, such as Marina Skia, is rewarding and ensures my products remain relevant to today’s trends. Marina, who won the International Jewellery London’s Kickstart program in 2016, now uses bespoke Town Talk Polish jewellery polishing cloths to sell with her designs.
What is the most-loved gift you have ever received?
A wonderful pocket watch that holds great sentimental value.
Whether it made you laugh, cry or cringe - do you have a favourite wedding moment?
I’m a fan of any Royal Wedding and unafraid to admit that I shed a tear at the marriage of Prince William and Catherine Middleton.
At H&H we have friendship at our core - what does friendship mean to you?
Loyalty, comfort, forgiveness and laughter are deep-rooted in all my dear friendships.
If you had to give the H&H #BridesmaidBible readers one piece of advice what would it be?
Enjoy treasured possessions and don’t squander them. We live in a disposable society but if someone has given you a special gift - treasure it. Care for it and it will reward you with many years’ happy memories and beauty.
