Be The Best Dressed Wedding Guest
So you’re well and truly in the thick of wedding season, and as exciting as this may be, you’re no doubt feeling the pressure of finding the perfect outfit. Admittedly, the person who will really be feeling the pressure and preparing herself for all eyes on her, is the bride, but the struggle is most definitely real and don’t worry, we hear you. Securing the title of best dressed guest goes far beyond the dress itself, so we’ve outlined our top tips below to help you take that crown.
It’s no easy feat choosing an outfit that is appropriate, classy and cool, an outfit that will confidently take you from cocktails on the lawn to (perhaps rather too) enthusiastically strutting your stuff to ‘Shout out to my Ex’ on the dance floor. Oh and to top it off, most crucially, an outfit that isn’t being worn by several other guests, too.
We won’t tell you what to wear, after all you know what you like, where to find it, and how much you want to spend, but keep these essentials in mind whilst browsing and you won’t go wrong.
To fail to prepare is to prepare to fail
It’s easy to go prepared for a possible wardrobe mishap with a few handbag staples. Take a few plasters (the cushioned kind) for any blisters and you’re feet will be very grateful as will any guest who undoubtedly isn’t as prepared as you. Some fashion tape to make sure everything is in check whilst rocking on the dance floor, also handy as a quick fix for any unraveling hems or broken straps (let’s hope there’s no need for that though). And finally, a classic, safety pins for pretty much everything else!
Size always matters
“You are either in your bed or in your shoes, so it pays to invest in both” John Wildsmith - a quote we live by at Hanson & Hopewell. When it comes to choosing the perfect pair of shoes for your outfit, remember that it is important to be comfortable though, those stunning sky scraper stilettos won’t look so good if you can barely walk out of the Church let alone last all night on the dance floor. A thicker, mid heel, can still be both practical and cool. If you can’t quite bring yourself to sacrifice style over sensibility, then sneak a pair of embellished sandals into your bag for when you’ve had one too many cocktails to care.
It’s the fit that counts
Even if it’s THE 2017 it dress, if it doesn’t fit you properly, then it’s somewhat of a wasted investment. Ensure your outfit fits just right, even if that means taking it to the seamstress or dusting off your sewing kit, both you and your lovely dress deserve the extra special attention.
Accessorise like a pro
At Hanson & Hopewell we’re all about sharing with special moments with friends, and let’s face it that stretches to clothes, jewellery and handbags! Even we don’t have a bag collection vast enough to cover all outfit pairing choices, and if you’re struggling to find the perfect bag to compliment yours then borrow one. Failing that, a classic black or nude bag will work with most outfits, ensure it’s small enough not to knock over the dessert station but just enough space to fit all the essentials we’ve discussed.
Strike a pose
What’s the point in all the planning and perfecting if you don’t have photographic evidence of you looking so fabulous? Well, there’s definitely still a point because you’ll be feeling amazing but our advice is to practice and find the perfect pose for you and your dress before the wedding. That way you’ll not only top the best dressed list but you’ll nail the wedding hashtag Instagram feed.
The Wedding Scenario
We know that you have style and love to shop - that’s the easy part. What’s not so easy is knowing what’s appropriate for each wedding scenario. If attending a colleague’s wedding or better still your partner’s colleague then maybe wear something a little more corporate to remind you that you will have to face these people on Monday morning once the free bar is a distant and blurry memory.
If it’s a destination wedding, there’s a chance it’s already cost you an arm and leg so your outfit budget may have been drastically cut. Don’t worry, the naturally more laid back dress code is a lot more budget friendly and comfortable too. Opt for floaty florals and pretty sandals paired with tousled beach waves.
So unless you’re on good terms, here’s a scenario we hope you don’t have to face but it’s happened to the best of us…your ex is going to be there. And even better, with his new girlfriend. We feel you. You need an outfit that slays without looking like you’ve tried too hard. Wear something you are confident in, even if it’s your tried and tested cocktail dress, if you feel good, you’ll look good. And for that extra boost, why not wear your sexy underwear to give your strut that added je ne sais quoi.
